County rules, not a city's
Mims is unincorporated, so Brevard County's land clearing code applies. The county wants a permit before clearing unless the property is exempt (Brevard County Code s. 62-4337), and it counts root-raking as land clearing (s. 62-4332).
Bona fide agriculture is one of the listed exemptions (s. 62-4334), which can matter on working pasture. Ask the county's Natural Resources Management office how it applies to your parcel before we schedule anything.
Acreage and palmetto
On a few acres of pine and palmetto, many owners don't want every tree gone. They want the palmetto and brush out so they can see the land, walk it and decide where the house or the barn goes. Underbrush and palmetto clearing does that. Full land clearing can follow later on the part that gets built on.
Long drives and millings
A long rural drive is a good fit for asphalt millings. We grade the drive, lay the millings down and pack them, and a packed millings drive usually stands up to a wet summer better than bare sand.
Check your deed restrictions first. Some rural subdivisions have rules about what a driveway can be surfaced with.

Wet ground and the river
Some Mims parcels have low, wet ground. Filling a wetland can need a state permit from the St. Johns River Water Management District or FDEP, depending on the project (SJRWMD). Land on the St. Johns River also needs a surface water protection buffer survey for county review (Brevard NRM).
We'd rather find that out before the first truck of fill dirt shows up than after it.

Questions people ask
Do I need a permit to clear pasture in Mims?
It depends on the land and how it's used. The county requires a land clearing permit unless an exemption applies, and bona fide agriculture is one of them. Call Brevard County Natural Resources Management with your parcel number before we set a date.
Is Mims part of Titusville?
No. Mims is unincorporated, so county rules apply. Titusville's own tree survey rule is on our Titusville page.
Are millings or fill better for a long driveway?
For the driving surface, millings. Fill dirt is for raising low spots under the drive first. Our fill, millings and topsoil guide covers which goes where.
